Keith Blackburn Grandmaster and founder of Shaolin Ssu in Austrailia and I were greatest of friends infact we considered our friendship as brothers.In february 1997 we were part of the I.S.K.A. Australian Martial Art's representative team which competed in the World Game's at Auckland,New Zealand.When we returned to Sydney,I offered Keith to do body guard work with me,which he agreed.The Security company we worked for is Australian Concert Security.We worked with International touring band's such as Prodogy,Foo Fighters'L'7's,T Party,Human Nature,just to name afew.Later on that year Keith asked me if I was interested in running a tournament with him and I said maybe?,than afew day's later he said that he will run it on his own but will need my help and I agreed.Because it was a Kung Fu and Wushu tournament we had to come up with a name that's catchy and that name was reveal to me in a vision "Battle Of The Dragons" sanctioned by I.S.K.A. Australia...One of my fonders memory of Keith was the opening of Battle Of the Dragons Tournament,was when Choy Lee Fut Lion spat the cabbage all over the unexpecting crowd's,the Lion was angry after grabbing the cabbage and no money(pay Chegue)was in it,hahaha,Keith came running to me and told me that the Lion was angry and he didn't know the reason why?Was there any money in the cabbage,I asked?he said no,and I began to laugh,and being me I could'nt stop laughing and as I looked across the hall there stood the whole Choy Lee Fut Lion dancers with their coach sifu Mark Whelan with the filthy look in their faces,that made me laugh alot more and alot longer,mate seeing Sifu Mark with that expression on his face brought on another lot of memories,anyway I will tell you about that another day.At the end I gave Keith $500 to pay Sifu Mark and his team of lion dancers.I know that there was never a day go by that I spend with my brother Keith that he didn't make me laugh alway's crack's a joke to make everyone laugh and happy all around him.I miss my brother Keith,he was a great person,a good teacher,kind and gentle to every human being and his love for his wife and children was out of this world.He's passing is Australia's lost and his memories shall live in my soul forever......Keith you are in "Heaven" I know,on behalf of the Shaolin Temple Boxing here and Siulum and the Chin Wu society we salute you.........Always my brother.......from Zac Walters(Grandmaster)ps to all Wushu and Kung Fu student and teachers "Battle Of the Dragon Championship " will soon begin again in memory of Late Keith Blackburn (Grandmaster) Shaolin Ssu....
Zac, thanks for the memories, Keith was a man i admired, i dont need to say anything else, to all readers out there just remember this was a very fit man who trained hard, for him to be struck down with a debilitating illness just shows that we are all vulnerable, enjoy your time as you never know when it will be taken from you.
